The scents ... they are able to take us to magical worlds in a matter of seconds or to send us to past epochs. A fragrance often reminds us of past experiences from childhood or of romantic evenings in front of the fireplace. The world of fragrances is just everywhere and always present. That is why it is not only at Christmas, but also at all the festivals of the year or simply the right time to want to make a scented candle yourself. Is that too time-consuming and complicated? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that!
In principle, the whole thing runs exactly like normal DIY candles, as we have already discussed in our article Pour candles have shown. Perfect for this: candle wax or old candle scraps, soy wax and beeswax. The new thing about making scented candles yourself is that you should add a few drops of fragrance oil when melting the wax.
Otherwise you can give your creativity and imagination the green light and decorate the finished DIY candles nicely after the wax has hardened. Depending on the occasion and the season, you can use wrapping paper, ribbons, parcel string, small cones, berries or fir greenery, dry flowers and herbs. Many of them can even be placed in the candle container before waxing and then serve as an original decorative effect.
Make an atmospheric scented candle yourself as a Christmas gift
You need:
- Candle remains or candle wax, soy wax flakes
- natural essential oils / fragrance oils of your choice
- Candle wicks, preferably with a metal base
- Crayons or wax sticks (optional) or food coloring
- Mason jars, cans or cups etc.
- Wooden sticks, clothes pegs or skewers
Making scented candles yourself is very easy and great fun
And this is how it is done:
Step 1:
Put the remains of candles, candle wax, soybean wax or beeswax in a metal bowl or small saucepan and melt slowly in a water bath over medium heat. During this time, attach the candle wick to the bottom of the mason jar / cup. For this you can fix the metal feet with some all-purpose glue or with a few wax drops. Use the shish kebab to attach the top of the wick to the center of the jar.
For smaller containers, the wick can also be attached with a clothes peg
You can also wrap the candle wick around the wooden stick
Step 2:
When the wax is completely liquid, add about 20-30 drops of the chosen fragrance oil and stir well. If desired, add a piece of crayon or some food coloring and stir again.
You can also add the additives to the wax before melting
Be sure to melt the candle wax in a water bath!
Step 3:
Switch to pouring candles. Remove the vessel with the melted wax from the stove and pour it slowly and carefully into the glass or into the cup with the candle wick. Hold on to the kebab skewer. Let the wax harden.
Step 4:
In about 3-4 hours, depending on the size of the candle jar, the wax of your scented candle will be quite solid and you can shorten the wick with the scissors.
We recommend using soy wax and real herbs or spices
Step 5:
If desired, decorate the scented candle with a beautiful gift ribbon, a package cord or a garland and ... your DIY gift is ready!
